Provenance, the LA way
Los Angeles has a real appetite for things made honestly by hand — and few objects are more honestly made than a Montecristi. This is not a brand name printed on imported paper straw; it is a single hat, woven by a single person, from straw his own family harvested.
What makes it authentic
A genuine Montecristi is woven entirely by hand from real toquilla straw (Carludovica palmata) — never paper fibre, raffia or caña flecha — harvested by the Carranza family themselves in coastal Ecuador. One weaver makes one hat; the finest grades take from several weeks up to nearly a year at the loom.
